PER is more complex, but it also has diminishing returns starting from the point when your accuracy matches the opposing defense. DEX is better than MIG for melee auto-attackers, because the action speed bonus of DEX is not diluted easily, whereas the damage bonus from MIG is often diluted because of how common +% damage bonuses are. However, from 11 to 12 might, 103% to 106% is only a 2.9% gain.ĭEX has a similar calculation to the above. Thus, from 10 to 11 MIG, you get a 3% damage bonus. MIG has diminishing returns on the user's damage output because each point only gives you +3% relative to your base damage. However, MIG is still generally worse than DEX and PER for weapon users even in PoE1. The only exception is that in PoE1, MIG could be better the more that you have it, due to the armor system. This means that the more points you have, the less valuable a further point is. So I pose the the question to you: Do you feel there's a minimum required investment to make putting points in a stat worth it? Are there any stats that are always worth dropping points into, no matter how few?Īll three dps stats (MIG, DEX, PER) actually have diminishing returns. One wonders what she would be capable of if some of those minor stat investments were consolidated differently. Most of her strength in combat comes from her class abilities. None of them are bad, but they're not doing much to help her either. Obviously any points above 10 in a stat is better than nothing (or a penalty), but look at Pallegina. Accuracy is critically important, but if all you can afford to invest in perception is two points (+2 to accuracy), is the investment even worth it? Would you be better off taking those 2 points and putting them in a stat that's already high? Or maybe to take a stat that's currently in a mediocre place and make it above average? The same thought came to mind regarding another important stat: perception. That doesn't seem like much, even if you don't intend to wear armor (not to mention the speed tier of your chosen weapon). Everyone one knows dexterity is important for DPS, but 12 effectively gives me a 6% action speed bonus. Then I started to wonder if that 12 in dex was actually doing anything for me. but I eventually settled on two 16s, and a 14 with a 12 in dexterity for flavor. I've never been a big fan of min-maxing my characters in this game (both for mechanical and RP reasons), so none of my stats are too high. I started up another run last night and did my usual pondering while on the character creation screen.
